With good solubility and low toxicity, butyl acetate has more advantage over the aromatic hydrocarbons and alcohols as solvent in paint and is widely used as the thinner such as polyurethane paint, acrylic paint, nitrocellulose coating and ethaneperoxide paint. For industry of collodion, nitrocellulose, varnish, artificial leather, plastics, and perfume industries, butyl acetate is used as a good organic solvent, which can dissolve rosin, polyvinyl acetate, polyacrylate, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated rubber, gutta percha and polymethyl methacrylate. Butyl acetate is a kind of solvent with excellent performance and wide application because it is almost compatible with all of the resin and organic matters.
Process Principle
1 ) Process Principle
Main site of butyl acetate production project is the butyl acetate device and the rest are auxiliary facilities. The catalytic esterification of sulfuric acid method is used as the production technology and the process principles are described as follows: Acetate and butanol mixed according to a certain proportion as the feed material, with the catalysis of concentrated sulfuric acid, produce the butyl acetate and water. Reaction product contains butyl acetate, butanol and water and the qualified products of butyl acetate can be obtained by distillation with the characteristics of butanol, butyl acetate and water formed ternary azeotrope at 89.4 degrees centigrade.
2) Process
Mixed according to a certain proportion, acetate and butanol are feeded into the esterification reactor and react with each other to produce the butyl acetate and water, with the catalysis of concentrated sulfuric acid and under the certain temperature and pressure. Reaction products are constantly steamed out from the reaction vessel and go to the esterification separation column.
Vapor getting from column top is cooled and condensed to separate the ester and water, with the separated water getting back to the column and the ester gong to the distillation column for refining, while discharged waste acid at fixed period from the bottom is centralized disposal.
Ester coming from the esterification tower goes to the distillation column and vapor getting from top is cooled and condensed, with the ester getting back and the water sent to the recovery tower, and butyl acetate obtained from the tower kettle is cooled as the product.
Water coming from the distillation column goes to the recovery column and vapor getting from top is cooled and condensed, with the water getting back and the light phase head ester recycling, while waste water from the bottom is discharged out of bounds.
